On Saturday 22nd November 2008 Tuntum organised the second in the series of programmes for the youth. Present were Accra Girls and Labone High Schools . As usual Mariska, Billie and Kobby were there. Mariska gave a talk on Dream Careers and how to choose what direction you were taking by assessing your own character and abilities.
Foremost was informing them that they could earn a living doing what they love and that taking one particular degree course does not limit your choices in future. One is allowed to change careers as many times as one wanted. Some of the young were so happy about the information they immediately saw that they could have dream careers and not be stuck with the usual stereo type jobs.
They also realized that they could have careers and hobbies at the same time and that it could be possible for the hobby becoming the main income earner.
After the talk the students were split into groups and had to create a collage of pictures showing what they wanted to do in future. Billie, in the capacity of a Counsellor, went round each table chatting and allowing the kids to think deep into what they really wanted in life and some of the goals they had were quite unusual.
Questions were raised about what subjects to take to get to a certain point in life. Kobby also interacted with the students especially those interested in IT and guided them. There was some entertainment by the students and the facilitators - (us) also led them to shake and move just to lighten up the day,
All in all, Yes Group had a successful day, and most of all the youth gave a positive response to the programme. |
